At a relatively young age, Mvintage founder Krystle Penza was unaware of how destructive breast cancer can truly be, but soon learnt about the devastating effects, both physical and emotional, after witnessing her own mother suffer from the sickness. Accepting the treatment was not easy, and one of the greatest pains was seeing her mother lose confidence in herself. The significance of de-feminization during her struggle was profound; she was extremely fearful about losing her womanhood and femaleness, on top of the physical pain she had to endure. It took years of courage and perseverance, and the road to recovery was a rough one, but Krystle is thankful every day to be able to call her mum a survivor. The unwavering support of family and friends ensured that she felt loved and comforted every step of the way. It was this support that empowered her mother to move forward after surgery, to feel whole again, and to live life to the fullest after breast cancer. This experience taught Krystle that at no time do women feel less so than when they battle a major illness like cancer. Most of these women have to fight for their lives, lose their breasts, their hair, and their femininity, yet still need to feel beautiful, both inside and out, as they grapple with their changing appearance. This journey also introduced Krystle to some incredible women battling breast cancer. What struck her most about their story was the significance and importance behind each helping hand throughout their journey, both big and small. In an attempt to honor our fighters and also encourage others to do the same, this month will be dedicated towards giving a small helping hand to all those currently undergoing cancer treatment. Mvintage has collaborated with the amazing Action for Breast Cancer Foundation by donating a piece of Mvintage jewellery to women battling breast cancer with every purchase within our stores. Our aim is to help these women feel strong, beautiful, and most of all, supported during the hardest time of their lives, while also allowing our wonderful clients to participate in this contribution.
